Mockery may not have averted these epic disasters, but a little more of it could certainly have helped mitigate their disastrous effects by raising the profile of the opposition. Whenever George Bush said something breathtakingly stupid and John Stewart or The Colbert Report ripped it to shreds, they did this nation an enormous favor.”
